Export growth strategies usually fail at sequencing rather than at ambition. Too many markets opened too fast, with the wrong order and the wrong support model. We help leadership teams sequence properly: where to go first, with what structure, and what the next two windows look like.
When clients come to us
When a producer or brand has an opportunistic export footprint and now wants a deliberate one. When a board has set an international revenue ambition without a credible plan behind it. When export performance has plateaued and the team needs an outside view of why. Often when a generational handover is putting export strategy back on the agenda.
How we work
A senior advisor leads a structured market prioritisation — combining market attractiveness with the firm's actual capacity to deliver in each — and produces a sequenced multi-year plan. We then design the operating model that supports it: which markets are direct, which are partnered, what hires are needed, and what the capital plan is.
What we deliver
- Prioritised market list with rationale
- Multi-year sequenced export plan
- Operating model by market segment
- Capital and resourcing requirement
- Channel and partner architecture
- Board reporting and review cadence
Typical engagement
Strategy engagements run six to twelve weeks. On our side, a senior advisor leads with input from the local advisor in each priority market. On the client side, the CEO or head of international is the principal counterpart, with the board reviewed at scoping and at sign-off.
Why CGLA
We work from inside the markets we recommend, not from a head office that has read about them. The advisor in each market is current and accountable to the same engagement partner, which keeps the strategy coherent across the markets you actually choose.
